Originally formed in 1972 by a few enthusiasts with an interest in the many aircraft wrecks to be found in the Peak District at that time, the society adopted its present title in 1974 with the object of providing Derby and district with an organisation which would foster an interest in all aspects of aviation, especially the historical side of the subject.

The Society is a member of both the British Aviation Preservation Council and the British Aircraft Archaeological Council, and has links with other national and local aviation organisations.

There is a wide range of membership whose interests cover the aeronautical spectrum from aviation writing to Zeppelins, and activities include:

Prospective members or enthusiasts are always welcome at our meetings, which are held on the second Monday of each month (unless notified otherwise) at 7.15pm at the Church Room, St. Nicholas’ Church, Allestree Lane, Allestree, Derby.
